Random Food Day

Nothing beats sitting at the bar, watching the cooks prepare your meal and hearing the slurping of food being joyfully devoured. This is how Spoon House in Gardena operates. I never heard of Spoon House until yesterday when my friend randomly drove me to eat lunch. Spoon House specializes in Japanese spaghetti which can be topped with Italian traditional  bolognese sauce, or the more Japanese traditional route with Uni(sea urchin) and seaweed.

My friend ordered the spaghetti with bolognese sauce, wieners, and topped it off with a sunny side egg.

I just stuck with the traditional bolognese sauce with meatballs. So good!
After eating the heaping plate of spaghetti we decided to satisfy our sweet tooth and get some dessert. I finally was able to try Chantilly Patisserie in Lomita. They are known for their unique pastries inspired by Japanese flavors. Pastry Chef Keiko Nojima is a freaking magical wizard. As we looked through the showcase filled with the most amazing pastries, we had the hardest time trying to decide what to order. We ended up ordering Choux a la Créme which is a choux filled with sweet cream, Choux aux Sésames, a choux filled with black sesame sweet cream, Framboage, the creamiest raspberry cheesecake with a crunchy graham cracker crust, and the Grapefruit Geleé, the most refreshing dessert ever.

Honestly, the Choux aux Sésames is the best choux I have ever tried. The choux had a great bite and crunch on the outside with the most pillowy texture on the inside. The black sesame cream had roasted flavors from the sesame with the perfect amount of sweetness from the cream. Drools.

I'm Baaaaack!

Hello! Long time no talk! Or I guess blog in this case. I've been seriously so busy with school, I haven't been able to kick back and just do the things that I love.. which you all know is cooking, baking, eating, and writing about food. But since I am on summer break I'm hoping to change that. Anyways, I've got some news! I recently found out that I got this amazing internship with a very well known restaurant/entertainment group and yes, I am super excited! I'm hoping to learn a lot and actually find my niche in the culinary field.
Sorry for the quick change of topic but.... I'm so happy to say my summer break has started with a bang. I've got to spend the week eating good food, and being with the people that I love the most, my friends. Recently for my friend's re-21st we went to the Roosevelt Hotel to wine and dine at 25 degrees, a gourmet burger joint, and bowl at the nontraditional bowling alley/bar at the Spare Room. It was such a great and unforgettable night.
One thing that I learned: you really feel like a close, tight family when you fit eight people into a booth that should only fit 4. Sigh.. I love my friends even if we had to fight for some space to eat our humongous burgers. It was constant apologies for throwing elbows into each other's faces. But still  good times.

So much food!

At the Spare Room Cocktails + Bowling

Nice little corner of the world, out of the hustle of Los Angeles.

Totally fell in love with this old school inspired DJ set up. So cute.

So little tidbit.. Does anyone know why the burger joint is called 25 degrees? Well according to the menu.. 25 degrees is the heat difference between a medium rare and well-done burger. Yup! That's all folks. Until we meet again my friends.

New News!

Hello Happy People! I am so excited to share some great news.
I finally got a STAND MIXER! Yay! Sort of an early(way early) birthday present for myself! It's been an exciting week at my house. I've been baking, experimenting, mixing, cleaning, and basically falling in love with my new mixer.
I can't wait to share with ya'll all of my goodies!

Let's first begin with these nom noms..

Almond Cookies

Then a second batch with coconuts

These cookies are made with the same dough but one has coconuts while the other doesn't. I also used a cookie cutter for the almond cookies and the one with coconuts I just rolled it into a ball. It's amazing how different these two cookies taste! The almond cookie is soft, buttery, and melts in your mouth, while the one with the added coconuts is sweet, crunchy, and almost caramelized on the bottom. So good!
While I am definitely enjoying my Saturday I can't wait for Sunday to come. My sister and I have a date at Melrose Trading Post. Can't wait to get my thrift on!!

Happy eatings!

Cheers Xo.

My two loves..

Two things that I absolutely love in life are books and food. So I guess it's only natural that I tend to gravitate towards cookbooks. The feeling of renting a new book(at the library), getting cozy in bed, reading each recipe one by one, placing post-its on new recipes to try and THEN making it.. ahh I love it. Here are my favorites for the month of February..

What are some of your favorite cookbooks??

Happy readings my lovelies!

Back to my sugary roots.

I love Korean bakeries. I love the different flavors and techniques that are used for a huge varieties of baked goods and pastries. One of my favorites are these..
Bouchee:
A cross between a lady finger and sponge cake filled with the
most creamiest, lightest, whipped cream.

So it only makes sense that I attempt to make these beauties! These might be hands down the best thing I have ever made. These little wonder cookies just melt in your mouth, leaving you smiling like the sun. Yums. Can't wait to make them again!
